Burgfechtel & Parent - Wisconsin Child Support
Law
Child Support changed in January 1, 2004 when Wisconsin’s new child support standard officially became effective. This standard provides the court with a starting point for determining how much child support, if any, is reasonable and appropriate under the circumstances. To access the Wisconsin child support calculator click here dcf.wisconsin.gov/bcs/chapter.htm. This child support calculator is merely a starting point and is not a substitute for a complete evaluation of your situation. First, it does not take into account whether the court should or should not count overtime wages, bonuses, other jobs, etc. Second, it does not take into consideration placement schedules which result in partial days of placement. Third, it does not take into account other children for which one is legally responsible. Finally, it does not take into consideration all of the other factors which a court can consider when determining a fair and reasonable amount of child support under all of the circumstances. Nonetheless, it does provide a starting point for the discussion and is beneficial in that regard.
